The following faculty endowments can accept additional funding at any amount: 

 

Applauding Avon’s Faculty Fund

Established in 2017 by Willard T. (Bill) Walker GP’15, ’19, Mary M. Walker GP’15, ’19, and Mary W. (Molly) Allen P’15, ’19. This fund is used to benefit Avon’s most talented and devoted faculty in a variety of different capacities.  

 

Cashion Distinguished Teaching Prize

Established in 1993 by James Cashion P’93. The prize is awarded at Graduation to an outstanding faculty member.

 

Sidney C. Clark Chair of English Literature

Established in 1989 by the estate of Edgar W. B. Fairchild P’60 in honor of Sidney Clark who had just completed his 31st year of teaching at Avon. The Chair is appointed annually by the Headmaster based on excellence and commitment in the teaching of English literature as exemplified by the career of Sidney C. Clark.

 

T.K. Curtis, Jr. ’63 Endowment for Faculty Salaries

Established in 2015 by T.K. “Knick” Curtis, Jr. ’63. The endowment will be used to support Faculty Salaries.

 

Finest Faculty Fund

Established in 2010 to help attract and retain faculty of the highest caliber by providing support to salaries, faculty benefits, professional development, special classroom initiatives and enhancing faculty housing.

 

William G. Kron Fund for Science

Established in 2007 in honor of William “Bill” Kron, H’07, faculty member from 1966 to 2007, to provide support to the science program.

 

Gail Laferriere Endowment for the Visual Arts

Established in 2008 by anonymous donors in honor of Gail Laferriere H’13, former faculty member from 1970 to 2013, to provide support to the visual arts program.

 

LaRocque Faculty Fund

Established in 2018 to honor the legacy of Kenneth LaRocque, headmaster from 1998 to 2019, the fund's goal is to hire and retain extraordinary educators; to enhance their professional development opportunities; and to provide comprehensive and unique benefits for Avon’s faculty families. 

 

Ludwig Junior Faculty Chair

Established by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ludwig P’99. The chair is traditionally awarded to a junior faculty member to assist towards the cost of a graduate degree.

 

Seth Mendell Chair in History

Established in 1990 by Avon’s board of directors to honor Seth F. Mendell ’52 and faculty member from 1959 to 1990, to support the teaching of history at Avon Old Farms School.

 

Pierpont Headmaster’s Chair

Established in 2010 by Guy O. Dove ’57 in memory of Donald Pierpont, Headmaster from 1947 to 1968, to underwrite the expenses associated with the position of Headmaster and the office of headmaster.

 

 

The following scholarship endowments can accept additional funding at any amount:

Avon African American Alumni Association (A5) Fund

Established in 2014 by and in honor of the Avon African American Alumni Association (A5) to attract academically talented African American students with financial need.

 

The Alumni Scholarship

Established in 1984, students are selected based on demonstrated ability in significant areas of school life. A familial lineage at Avon Old Farms is preferred.

 

D. Arthur Bartholomew Scholarship

Established in 2009 in honor of D. Arthur Bartholomew P’04. The fund provides support to an academically qualified student who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education with preference towards a football player.

 

Brooks Family Scholarship Fund

Established in 1983 in memory of Eaton Brooks ’62 by the descendants of Joseph Judson Brooks and Judith French Twing, who were cousins of Avon Old Farms’ founder Theodate Pope Riddle. The fund provides financial support to an academically qualified student who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Sidney C. Clark Scholarship Fund

Established in 2004 by the estate of Sidney C. Clark, faculty member from 1958 to 1995, to provide support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education, with a preference to a student that is an academic post graduate and a citizen of the United States.

 

Class of 1960 Golden Anniversary Scholarship

Established in 2010 by the Class of 1960 to provide financial aid support to academically qualified students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Class of 1965 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2015 by the Class of 1965 to provide financial support to academically qualified students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Class of 1968 Pierpont Scholarship Fund

Established in tribute to Donald Pierpont on the 50th anniversary of his last graduating class, proceeds support scholarship assistance to worthy students who need the financial support necessary to afford an Avon education.

 

Class of 1985 Juan Comella Scholarship Fund

Established in 2010 by the Class of 1985 in honor of Juan Comella, faculty member from 1977 to 1985, to provide financial support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Colatrella Family Scholarship Fund

Established in 2009 by Anthony and Mary Colatrella P’09 to provide financial support to those who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Cole Family Scholarship

Established in 2011 by Marty P’04, H’16 and Terri Cole P’04 to provide financial support to a student from an urban area with preference given to a basketball player with a strong interest in math or science.

 

Conroy Scholarship Fund/Class of 1982 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2001 by Brian Conroy ’82 to provide support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education, with a preference to a student of Latin descent.

 

Miriam L. and Jorge H. Consuegra ’51 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2013 by Ellen M. Charles P’79, ’83 on behalf of her sons, George D. Iverson ’79 and Andrew P. Iverson ’83. Proceeds support academically qualified students with a financial need.

 

Terry Cutler Fund for Minority Students

Established in 1996 by Terry Cutler, then the Director of Admissions and her husband Les. The fund provides day to day financial support to deserving minority students.

 

D’Amelio Family Scholarship

Established in 2017 by the D’Amelio Family and Mr. and Mrs. Martin I. Cole. The fund will be used to give need-based financial aid to a current resident of New Jersey, who is also a football or basketball player. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

 

Coach Frank D.B. DiCocco ’02 Scholarship

Established in 2013 by Louis and Kathy DiCocco in memory of their son, Frank D. B. DiCocco ’02, to provide support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education, with a preference to an academically motivated athlete.

 

Difiglia Family Scholarship

Established in 2008 by Joseph and Alice Difiglia, Parents of Joseph ’06 and Michael ’08. The fund provides financial support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Diogenes Scholarship 

Established in 2005 by Daniel Carpenter ’72 to provide support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education, with a preference to a day student from the towns of the Farmington Valley and exhibiting strong qualities in academics, athletics, and leadership.

 

Djiounas-Pancavage Scholarship

Established in 2014 by Andrew Djiounas GP’17 and the Djiounas Family Foundation. The fund provides financial support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Francis S. & Mary A. Driscoll Scholarship

Established in 1998 by George Weiss to honor Francis S. & Mary A. Driscoll who were the parents of 14 children including 11 boys, seven of whom graduated from Avon during the Trautman years. This scholarship is to provide one full aid boarding student or multiple partial aid boarding students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Peter M. Evans Scholarship

Established in 2009 by Mark DeBlois ’74 in honor of Peter M. Evans, faculty member since 1971, to provide support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education, with a preference to an academically qualified “student-athlete”.

 

Flanagan Lacrosse Scholarship

Established in 2010 by Joe Huber in honor of Henry “Skip” Flanagan, faculty member from 1972 to 1982 and again from 2009 to 2018, to provide support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education, with a preference to a student active in Avon’s lacrosse program.

 

General Scholarship

Established by the Avon board of directors to provide financial support to those who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

John T Gardner Scholarship

Established in 2012 by Avon’s board of directors in honor of John T Gardner, faculty member since 1975, to attract students who aspire to an Avon education.

 

Hoffman Scholars Fund

Established in 2012 by the Maximilian E. and Marion O. Hoffman Foundation. The fund provides need-based scholarships for students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Leesfield Family Scholarship

Established in 2017 by Ira and Cynthia Leesfield GP’19. The fund provides financial assistance to academically qualified students, with a financial need, and with a preference given to a basketball or baseball player.

 

The Gregg Richard Linburg ’87 Scholarship

Established in 2014 by Dr. and Mrs. Richard M. Linburg P’87. The fund provides financial assistance to academically qualified students with financial need. The scholarship celebrates the fine attributes of endurance, grit, and hard work evidenced by their beloved son Gregg, who passed away in 1992.

 

Kathy M. and William W. Lyon ’63 Scholarship

Established in 2013 by William W. Lyon ’63. The fund provides financial support to academically qualified students, with significant financial need, who may come from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a preference for minority students.

 

Lyons/Barry Scholarship

Established in 2011 by James and Lisa Lyons P’06, ’07, ’11 and J. Leo and Lillian Barry GP’06, ’07, ’11. The fund provides financial support to those who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

William O’Donnell Family Scholarship Fund

Established in 1992 by Mr. and Mrs. William T. O’Donnell. The fund provides financial support to a student who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.
 

Donald W. Pierpont Memorial

Established in 1968 in memory of Donald Pierpont, Headmaster from 1947 to 1968, to provide financial support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Dr. William G. Ryan Scholarship

Established in 2009 by Mr. and Mrs. Patrick T. Ryan P’09, ’12. The fund provides financial support to “a worthy and well-rounded boy from a ‘hardscrabble’ background; a young man who is academically talented, comfortable on the playing fields, and showing potential for leadership and service.”

 

Jack A. Sebastian Scholarship

Established in 2010 by Jack Sebastian ’84. The fund provides financial support to a student who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Alex Story ’10 Fund

Established in 2012 by Thomas E. and Janice Kulynych Story in memory of Jonathan Alexander Story ’10. The fund provides a financial allowance to students in need throughout the school year.

 

George M. Trautman Scholarship

Established in 1997 in honor of the retirement of George M. Trautman H’98, Headmaster from 1969 to 1998, to provide financial support to students who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.

 

Pedro L. Vega ’12 Scholarship Fund

Established in 2013 by the Richard Previdi family in memory of Pedro Vega ’12 to attract students who aspire to an Avon education with a preference for a student with financial need and for whom singing is also a passion. In addition, the Donor desires that in awarding the scholarship that Pedro’s effervescent personality and dedication to improving his scholastic record will be taken into account.

 

John D. Wendler ’68 Scholarship

Established in 2018 by John ’68 and Debie Wendler. The fund provides financial support to a student who is highly qualified academically and is also a promising athlete, but comes from circumstances that would preclude him from attending Avon Old Farms.

 

Roger G. Wing ’71 Scholarship

Established by Wayman Wing P’71 in honor of his son. The fund provides financial support to help a young deserving student achieve his academic and moral goals.

 

Richard H. Woodwell ’75 Scholarship

Established in 2001 in memory of Richard “Woody” Woodwell ’75 to provide financial support to a student who would otherwise be unable to meet the cost of an Avon education.
